Engineering Data Support
The IBM Communications Oriented Production
Information and Control System (TFG2000) provides
management with a guide for the development of a
dynamic, online manufacturing control system that
is responsive to the needs of many kinds of
businesses. One of the products within TFG2000 is
TFG2000
Engineering Data Support (CEDS). CEDS receives bill of material
data from IBM* Engineering Management for
CIM/Product Engineering Support, IBM Engineering
Management for CIM/Computer Aided Design
Integration,
and Computer Aided Design workstations.
CEDS edits the data and
places it in the TFG2000 Product Definition
Database as the product bill of material.
CEDS is intended to be used with the
IBM File Transfer program, Program 5668-932
or 5665-487, or an equivalent file transfer program.
The TFG2000 Bill of Material/Online II (BOM/O), Program 5785-GBA,
or an equivalent, is required.
CEDS requires the TFG2000 Base
Product, which consists of the TFG2000 databases,
TFG2000 programs that are common to several TFG2000
products.
Installation tools are provided by the CEDS product.
The operations guide is one of six manuals that
support CEDS and the TFG2000 Base Product.
It is intended for data processing personnel who
are involved with the installation,
implementation, and maintenance of the TFG2000
products. These people should have experience
working with a large computer system and may have
formal data processing training. This manual
assumes that they are familiar with CICS, DL/I,
the operating system of choice, and with some
computerized applications.
The operations guide describes the following:
- The operating environment
- All programs in the product
- The integration of the installed TFG2000 products
- Implementation considerations
- How to install, tailor, and operate the product
- All databases used
- All table layouts used
Although the operations guide is written for
data processing personnel in general, the chapters
are written for specific audiences.
All CEDS users should read Chapter 1.
Chapters 2 and 3 are written for those involved in
program maintenance and modification. Chapters 4
and 5 are intended for data processing personnel
concerned with the analysis, integration, and
operations of systems.
The appendixes, with the exception of Appendix
B, the Sample Problem, are provided as
enhancements to the information in Chapters 1
through 5. The Sample Problem is used to test the
proper installation and processing of the TFG2000
product.
The structure of the manual is as
follows:
- Chapter 1. System description
- This chapter describes the aspects of
the TFG2000 system and this TFG2000 product, such as
processing methods and screen design standards.
It also explains how CEDS communicates
with other TFG2000 application areas.
- Chapter 2. Online application programs
- This chapter describes the online application
programs specific to CEDS.
It includes sample screens, reference data, and
additional information.
- Chapter 3. Batch programs
- This chapter describes the reference material,
input, and sample output for the batch programs in
CEDS.
- Chapter 4. TFG2000 Engineering Data Support integration and tailoring
- This chapter provides information to assist in
integrating CEDS with other TFG2000
products.
Relevant entries in the Environment Table are
discussed.
- Chapter 5. Installation and operation of TFG2000 Engineering Data Support
- This chapter describes the minimum system
configuration required for CEDS and the
installation stages.
- Appendix A. How to use the charts
- This appendix explains how to use the charts
that are used to describe information in this
manual.
- Appendix B. TFG2000 Engineering Data Support Sample Problem
- This appendix provides an online exercise that
is run against the TFG2000 Sample Problem data
or uses data provided on the
TFG2000 Base Product.
It is intended as a working introduction to using
CEDS.
The Sample Problem is provided for two
reasons:
- To verify that the product has been successfully installed
- To teach appropriate personnel how to use this system
Sample databases are provided with the TFG2000
Base Product.
The Sample Problem follows a sequence of online
transactions
that should be
similar to those used in a production environment.
You can follow the steps and check your
results against those included in the text.
All personnel involved with installing and using
the product should perform this exercise.
Note: Certain figures and data mentioned in this
manual assume that the options selected, by means
of the Environment Table and other parameter
values, are the default values as distributed with
the product.
- Appendix C. TFG2000 copybooks
- This appendix provides a cross-reference
of copybooks used within
CEDS to the programs that use them. The
information is presented in two sequences: first,
programs that use each copybook and, then,
copybooks within a program.
- Appendix D. TFG2000 Engineering Data Support program structures
- This appendix provides charts of the
relationship between a main program and any other
program modules used to perform a specific task.
- Appendix E. Program cross-reference list
- This appendix provides an alphabetical
cross-reference index
to CEDS program reference information.
- Appendix F. PSB names
- This appendix describes the Program
Specification Blocks (PSBs) used by
CEDS.
- Appendix G. CEDS work database
- This appendix describes the Work Database, EMTDB0E
used by the CEDS product.
- Appendix H. Generalized interface data set
- This appendix contains information about the
generalized interface data set from which the CEDS
product expects to extract bill of material
information.
- Appendix I. CIM product engineering support information
- This appendix provides a description for
the IBM Engineering Management for CIM product
engineering support format.
- Appendix J. PDI content and format
- This appendix contains a description of the
PDI content and format.
- Appendix K. Multiple environment considerations
- This appendix contains information about working with multiple
production environments in a CICS region.
- Glossary
- The glossary provides definitions for terms
used with the TFG2000 products.
- Bibliography
- The bibliography lists the publications
recommended for reference.
These publications expand on the functional
descriptions given in this manual and describe
other TFG2000 products.
In addition to the operations manual, five other
publications are available for
CEDS and the TFG2000 Base Product. The other five manuals
are as follows:
- TFG2000 Engineering Data Support
General Information
Manual,
GH31-0020
This manual is a high-level description of the
CEDS functions and applications.
It includes a brief description of the overall
TFG2000 system, details of the specific application
area, how CEDS addresses the relevant
functions, and how CEDS can be integrated
with other TFG2000 products.
For data processing personnel, details are
given about the DP environment required to install
and operate the product. Personnel involved in
purchasing the TFG2000 products should read this
manual.
- TFG2000 Engineering Data Support
User Guide and Reference
Manual,
SH31-0021
This manual is intended for
production management and production schedulers
who are involved with the application area
addressed by CEDS.
It describes the procedures for using the product,
conventions for data entry, available output, and
the meaning of any product error messages.
It does not provide detailed data processing
information or describe how to install the
product.
The manual is divided into sections that
discuss the functional areas of CEDS.
Within these sections, the operation of each
online transaction and
one
batch program is described
to explain which transactions and programs can be
used in certain situations.
- TFG2000 Database Guide, SH19-6409
This manual provides details of the general
design and contents of all TFG2000 databases for
all currently available TFG2000 application
products.
It describes the structure of each TFG2000 database,
together with the segments and individual
data elements which make up the database.
Topics included in the book are as
follows:
- The TFG2000 database design
- A review of IBM Data Language/I (DL/I)
concepts and terms
- A detailed database description for each of the
TFG2000 DL/I databases
- A layout of each of the TFG2000 Virtual Storage
Access Method (VSAM) data sets
- A product database cross-reference
- A detailed database description for each of
the Communication Oriented Message System (CORMES)
DL/I databases
The TFG2000 Database Guide is
primarily for data processing personnel and the
database administrator.
However, it could be considerably useful as a
reference document to management or
