Chapter 5. Installation and operation of CEDS

This section highlights basic details of the operating environment, the installation process for CEDS, and the databases used by this product. It is intended for the data processing department. In addition, the overall support environment for TFG2000 system users is discussed at the end of the section.

Prerequisites

The TFG2000 Base Product, Licensed Program 5688-019, is a prerequisite for CEDS. It contains the TFG2000 databases and the TFG2000 common code. The TFG2000 Base Product must be installed before you start the installation of CEDS.

The CEDS product is designed to operate with the TFG2000 Bill of Material/Online II Version 2, Licensed Program 5785-DHJ or its equivalent, which should be installed before installing this product. The TFG2000 Bill of Material/Online II or its equivalent function is required for editing and maintaining Product Definition Data.

The TFG2000 databases now include expanded database definitions relevant to modern manufacturing techniques. The TFG2000 Base Product provides migration programs to migrate the relevant databases. CEDS is designed to work with the migrated TFG2000 databases.

Specified operating environment

CEDS is designed to operate on an IBM System/370*, an IBM 30XX, or IBM 43XX Processor, or an equivalent product, with sufficient resources to support the following:

Operating System
VSE/SP or MVS/SP* running in 24-bit addressing mode Version 1 and Version 2 (MVS/XA*)

Database
DL/I DOS/VS or IMS/VS-DB

Data Communications
CICS/DOS/VS or CICS/OS/VS

Machine requirements

The minimum machine requirements are:

The specific user operating environment will determine the actual storage requirements and processor power, depending on the number of transactions used, number of terminals, and the required response time.

Programming requirements

CEDS operates on either the VSE or MVS operating system.

DOS/VSE version

Most of these programs are written in ANS-COBOL. They require the COBOL/VSE Compiler and Library Version 1 Release 3, Program 5746-CB1, for installation and error correction. The programs are designed to operate with the following programs at the stated release level or their current, equivalent release:

MVS version

Most of these programs are written in ANS-COBOL. They require the COBOL/VS Compiler and Library Version 1 Release 2, Program 5740-CB1 for installation and error correction. The programs are designed to operate with the following programs at the stated release level or their current, equivalent release:

Note: If you operate under OS/VS1, licensed program 5652-VS1, expect minor differences in the installation process. Please refer to the program directory supplied with the product.

System generation requirements

The system generation requirements for CICS/VS, DOS/VS, and OS/VS systems are covered in this section.

CICS/VS requirements

The following features must be available within the CICS/VS system:

Installation of CEDS

The CEDS product is distributed on a magnetic tape that contains all the data necessary to install the product. The tape has been created so that the product can be installed quickly and easily and integrated with any other TFG2000 products already installed. Different tapes are provided to the DOS and MVS user, but the basic installation method is similar in either case.

A program directory is supplied with the distributed tape, which confirms the actual contents of the tape and gives detailed information regarding the product installation.

This section of the manual describes the general approach which applies to both the DOS and MVS user. However, it does not replace the need to carefully read the installation instructions in the program directory.

The installation instructions assume a test system with testing databases to run the Sample Problem which verifies the successful installation of the product.

The job streams provided always need to be modified slightly for a suitable production environment. Once the system has been installed and tested successfully, you can review the job streams and make modifications to them to reflect such considerations as:

Different disk pack serial numbers
Larger database space requirements

Installation stages

The following are basic installation stages that are applicable to CEDS but also apply equally to all other TFG2000 products.

These stages will be accomplished by installing the bill of material product. An additional version of the Product Definition Database will be created during the installation of the CEDS product.

DOS installation

The CEDS distribution tape is in standard MSHP format and contains the following files:

Following is an overview of the steps required to install CEDS:

  1. Unload the product tape (file 1) into a temporary library using the Maintain System History Program (MSHP). Refer to the CEDS program directory for sample JCL to perform this task.

  2. Punch the installation tool JCL from the temporary library and edit it with your specific installation parameters.

  3. Assemble the installation tool to generate required installation JCL.

  4. Modify the generated JCL to define your specific environment.

  5. Run required installation JCL to install the product and load appropriate sample data.

  6. Perform the Sample Problem to verify proper installation.

MVS Installation

The CEDS distribution tape is in standard SMPE format and contains the following files:

The first installation task is to unload the installation macro and assembly JCL from file 2 of the installation tape. See the CEDS program directory for sample JCL to perform this task.

Edit the macro assembly JCL and modify parameter values according to installation requirements, using parameter descriptions supplied in the CEDS program directory. These values include name prefixes, DASD values, and job card information.

Assemble the CEDS installation macro. The output from the assembly is an IEBUPDTE job stream containing all installation jobs. Review these jobs to verify generated parm values, then run the IEBUPDTE to create each installation job as an individual PDS member.

Run the installation jobs as documented in the program directory. These jobs perform such tasks as:

When installation jobs have been completed, you are ready to run the Sample Problem.

DOS and MVS

After the product installation, preferably before the online Sample Problem, program libraries and databases should be saved using standard utility programs. In this way, the packs can be restored to a known point.
